What classifies as a bedroom?

 It's very confusing these days what really is considered as a bedroom. I have viewed listings that advertised, on MLS®, a one bedroom with a window, a closet but no door. Another had a window, no closet or a door. Then, just recently, I see a listing that is saying 2 bedrooms, one has no window but a closet and a door. So, what really is clasified as a true bedroom?


In Real Estate MLS® - a bedroom must have a closet but not a window.


In BC Building Code -  a bedroom must have a window and a door but not necessarily a closet.



As a renovator, my logic is with the BC Building Code Association. For a bedroom to be a classified as a true bedroom, one must be able to escape safely from a room they sleep in, if there is a fire. Closet isn't going to save you...
